Composing with the Harmonic Armature
Composition is a tricky balance of emphasis, order and variety. But there are well-worn tools that can help make organizing what we see a little easier, and one of those tools is the harmonic armature.
In this course, you'll see how harmonic armature—a grid of sorts building on the concept of thirds—can aid you in organizing shapes with an emphasis on asymmetry and points of interest. We'll see how it applies to different landscapes, and how to build a composition using the armature as a backbone.
While we'll focus on landscapes, the concepts apply to any subject matter including still life, portraits, and abstract works. The course includes traditional and digital demos (using Procreate) along with reference photos to design with what we see and push things further.
By the end of this course you'll be familiar enough with the harmonic armature to adapt it to your own work and personal tastes when it comes to composition.
Course Includes:
- 3+ hours of instructional video content
- Lecture materials
- 3 real-time demos (digital and traditional)
- Grid templates to use
